The Eachine Wizard x220 is a ARTF Quad made by Eachine
Price : £117.73 or $130.99
Packing everything you need to fly except for a Battery, Transmitter, Receiver and Video Receiver (for FPV). This Quad for the price cannot be beaten, a pleasure to fly great for beginners or for a park flyer. It packs a punch and is great for getting used to racing or freestyle.
The frame is made With 4mm carbon fibre arms and 1.5mm thick base plate. It also comes with a 1 mm mounting plate for extra protection. This being a great beginner flyer, it’s sturdy and can take quite a beating even at high velocities. The frame also comes with carbon fibre side plates which are better removed to improve air flow. The frame is a classic X-Frame design and is very similar to that of the Impulse RC Alien. Due to its large size, there is plenty of space within the frame for any additions you may need to have.
The Eachine Wizard X220 comes with Eachine’s 2204-2300kv motors are not amazing but are quite and fly well with both 3s and 4s batteries. They provide enough thrust to fly using the provided props which come in a lovely purple colour and are made by KingKong. Each Eachine Wizard X220 comes with 10 pairs of props providing enough for the initial few weeks of flying at the very least.
The ARTF version of the Eachine Wizard x220 comes with an updated flight computer when compared to the Ready to fly version. The F3 6DOF flight controller provided is a pretty good f3 flight computer and already comes pre-flashed with Beta flight. Setting up the FC to fly didn’t take too long and there are plenty of videos online that can help with this, for example, the video below.
The provided 20A BLheli_s Esc are great and appear to respond well with no burnouts over the 20 or so hours of flight time to date. They are easy to flash and have more then enough power for the provided motors, and then some.
The Video transmitter and Camera are probably the most disappointing things on this otherwise wonderful quad. The Video Antenna isn’t necessarily bad it’s a Skyview 5.8G 48CH 200mw and although I complain, I’m still using it after 20 or so flying hours. However, due to its design, it’s a nightmare to change channels and even harder to see what frequency it’s transmitting on. I also had an issue with the lower screw connector with it breaking off after my first crash leading to the Antenna coming loose constantly. However, this was quickly fixed with some solder.
The Camera although works, is poor, to say the least. its CMOS sensor means that it cannot transition between light and dark, you may think that this isn’t an issue, however the second you point the camera above the horizon or towards the sun, the camera blacks out for a second or two which isn’t good when flying. The camera can be easily replaced and I ended up replacing mine with the Runcam Swift 2.
Overall the Wizard X220 is one of the best-priced ARTF quads out there, Eachine have done a great job this quad and its a must have as as your first quad or as a backup or spare.
